How can I get the Easy Setup CD?
On the AirTies website, select your product under the Download Center. Then click on the “Easy Installation CD” tab to download the CD contents.
How can I access my device’s web interface to set/modify the advanced settings?
In any web browser window(e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape), type http://192.168.2.1 in the address field to get to your device’s web interface and modify the advanced settings.
How can I get the most recent Firmware for my device? How can I load it on to my device?
Pick the product you wish from Download Center and click on the Firmware button. Unzip the file using win.zip. Using the web UI of your modem (http://192.168.2.1) go to “Tools” and select “Firmware Upgrade” to load the file.
I forgot the password for my device. What should I do?
If you have forgotten the password you have defined for logging in to your device using the web interface, you need to reset your device to factory defaults. By going back to factory defaults, all other settings that you may have configured (ADSL, Wireless, LAN settings) will be erased. To reset your device, press and hold the “Reset” button on the back panel for 5 seconds while your device is on. You can then login to the web interface by leaving the password field blank, and reenter all your settings.
If I do not have international calling enabled on my regular phone service, can I still make international VoIP calls using my AirTies device?
By using a VoIP service provider of your choice you can make international phone calls over the Internet with your AirTies device even if your fixed line service is not setup for international calling.
What is the minimum required ADSL connection speed for VoIP?
For good call quality the minimum recommended is 512 Kbps.
What is the difference between Skype and my AirTies device?
With your AirTies device, you do not need a computer, earphones, or a microphone to make phone calls. You call using your regular phone or by connecting your device to a PBX.
Can I still use my phone when there is a power or ADSL failure?
Yes. When there is a power or ADSL connection failure, your AirTies device automatically switches your calls to the land line so that you can continue to use your phone to make and receive calls without having to change any settings or connections.
How do I know if my call is taking place over the Internet or land line?
For calls taking place over PSTN, you hear two short beeps after you dial the number and as the call is taking place the “Phone” LED on the front panel of your device keeps flashing (red for landline and blue for VoIP).
Is the call quality as good as the regular phone?
Yes, with the QoS feature of your device, call quality is as good as the regular phone calls and there are no interruptions or delays.
What is QoS (Quality of Service)? How does the QoS feature on my AirTies device work?
QoS (Quality of Service), assigns priorities based on packet type to expedite certain types of packets between your local network and the Internet. For simultaneous Internet access and phone calls over the same ADSL line, the AirTies device gives higher priority to VoIP calls and voice packets are transmitted at a higher priority than the rest of the applications, (e.g. FTP transfer, mail) during the phone call.
Is it secure to make phone calls over the Internet? What kind of security measures are taken while my voice is transmitted over the Internet?
Yes, it is secure to make VoIP calls over the ADSL line using your AirTies device. Since your device is an integrated access device (ADSL modem integrated with VoIP gateway), the traffic is transmitted directly over the ISPs ATM backbone and reaches your VoIP service provider’s backbone.
How can I reset my AirTies device to default factory settings?
To reset your device, press and hold the “Reset” button on the back panel for 10 seconds using a pointed object (such as the end of a paper clip) while your device is still on. This erases all settings (ADSL, NAT, etc.) except the VoIP settings. If you press and hold the reset button for 20 seconds or more, then all your settings, including VoIP, will be erased. You will have to configure all your settings again. If your device was provided by your service provider, then its VoIP settings are configured automatically. In case of a problem, turning your device off and then on will refresh this configuration.
What is the bandwidth required and used for each phone call?
For VoIP calls your device supports the G729 codec and uses a bandwidth of 24 Kbps
How many calls can be made simultaneously?
With your AirTies device, you can make two simultaneous VoIP calls over the Internet and only one call over the landline.
Can it be used with a PBX?
Yes, you can connect your device to a PBX and have the internal users make outgoing phone calls using your device. For this, you must use an outside line with an active ADSL service. Connections should be made as follows:
1. Plug in the outside line to the LINE port of your splitter.
2. Connect the PHONE port of the Splitter to the LINE port of your device.
3. Connect the MODEM port of the Splitter to the ADSL port of your device.
4. Connect the PHONE1 and PHONE2 ports of your device with two outgoing line ports of your PBX.
5. Configure the PBX to send the local, long distance and international phone calls to the outgoing line ports connected to your device.
My ADSL service has a monthly quota. Will voice calls cause me to exceed my quota?
When you make phone calls over the ADSL line, you will be downloading approximately 24 Kbps. This amount is too small to fill your quota. On an hour long phone call, you will be downloading approximately 10 Mbytes.
Can I do port forwarding with my AirTies device?
Yes, you can do port forwarding with the NAT (Network Address Translation) feature of your device. Data packets sent from the Internet to your WAN address arrive at a certain port of your device and are redirected to the same port of a computer on your local network.
How do I install the ADSL Usage monitor?
Install the ADSL Utility Program from the CD included with your device onto your computer. When you run the program, you will see the “ADSL Counter” button on the main menu and can use it to track your monthly ADSL usage (download and upload).
Can I block access to MSN?
To block the use of programs such as ICQ, MIRC, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, you need to use a 3rd party Firewall such as ISA SERVER or Checkpoint.
Can I use my AirTies modem/gateway overseas?
YES. AirTies products are designed and developed in compliance with the latest technology. You will need to find out which ADSL line parameters (VPI, VCI values, PPPoA/PPPoE encapsulation mode..) are used in the country where you would like to use your device and configure those settings correctly. Also, make sure that the local ADSL connection type is “Annex A”.
The ADSL LED on my device is not turning on. What should I do?
Check the splitter connections of your device. The hardware connections should be made as described in the User Manual and Easy Setup CD. If there are no problems with the connections, contact your ADSL service provider and report the problem.
My AirTies product crashed as a result of user error. What should I do?
Even though it is not required by law to repair a product that has failed as a result of not following the User Manual guidelines, following its principle of unconditional customer satisfaction, AirTies will make every effort to fix the problem at no charge.
