Istanbul, 21^st March 2011 - AirTies, the innovative wireless networking vendor, is announcing a strategic partnership with Ekioh who design innovative user interfaces (UIs) and browsers for embedded systems like set-top boxes. AirTies will be previewing set-top boxes running the Ekioh UIs and browsers, designed to offer ease of use and a better interactive experience for graphics and animation, on stand number 27 at this year’s IPTV World Forum event.

 

AirTies chose to add Ekioh to its list of supported browsers in response to customer demand and in order to penetrate new markets - particularly those in Eastern and Central Europe where Ekioh is widely deployed.  The Ekioh browser and UI is based on the Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) standard, reknown for its ability to render graphics in a superior manner to HTML. One key advantage of the new UI is its ability to scale up or down between SD and HD resolutions seamlessly and its ability to deliver the optimal resolution based on the resolution and dimensions of the screen available.   The SVG Engine also requires minimal memory and processor resources, also driving down the cost of the STB and making it more affordable. 

 

Another important feature of the partnership is the freedom it offers for customisation of the UI according to different operator requirements, and the ease with which designers can export their designs out of third party applications such as Adobe Illustrator onto the STB to see the effect, thereby maintaining the integrity of the original design concept, resulting in a better design for the consumer.   With full support for AJAX and XMLHttpRequest, content can also be modified on-the-fly from remote servers, for uses such as television guides (EPGs), video-on-demand menus and shopping carts, on your IPTV STB
