Intuitive Installation and Setup

AirTies products come with an Easy Setup CD which includes audio visual aids to make installation and configuration of the product a breeze.

Easy Installation with Animated Instructions
AirTies Easy Setup CD starts with an animation that walks (and talks) the user step by step through the installation process showing how to and where to connect the cables. The ports on the device and the cables are color coded to help make this even easier.

Once cabling is done, the AirTies Utility (which is installed on the PC when you first run the Easy Setup CD) does the rest of the setup configuring the Internet connection plus wireless network and security if you have a wireless AirTies product.

The setup can be done either over a direct connection to an Ethernet port or over a wireless connection for wireless devices. The user doesn’t have to do anything other than enter a username and password. The rest is done automatically. And it only takes a few minutes.

Automatic Initial Wireless Connection to AirTies Wireless Devices
The AirTies Utility first checks to see if there is already a connection to the device. For wireless devices, if a connection does not exist, then:

  • It checks the network adapters on the PC enabling them if they are not already enabled. The TCP/IP status of each adapter and the security mode it supports are all checked and their default wireless profiles are set.
  • Then, the AirTies devices on the network are found and a wireless connection is established to the device being configured.
  • If the search yields no AirTies devices, possible causes are investigated and the user is notified of settings that may need to be changed (such as static IP, proxy)
  • The user can follow on the screen the status of each step the AirTies Utility is taking.

    ADSL Configuration
To configure the ADSL settings, the only thing the user is required to do is enter the ADSL username and password assigned by the ISP. If their ISP is using the AirTies TR-069 feature, the user does not even have to enter these. With TR-069, the configuration is done completely automatically.

    Warranty Registration
The user is also asked to enter customer information such as name and phone number for Product Warranty Registration and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Registration to the CRM database is automatically done when the Internet connection is established. Product identification information including serial number, MAC address, and firmware version of the device are automatically retrieved and entered in the CRM database. When a customer calls for technical support, the product can be identified clearly through this information.

    Wireless Network and Security Setup
For wireless devices, the AirTies Utility automatically configures wireless security settings.

  • The utility program finds the highest security level that is supported by both the wireless router and the PC.
  • If the user keeps the default settings, the AirTies Utility assigns a random password for the wireless network and saves it on the router and the PC.
  • If the user chooses to set his/her own password, the strength of the password is measured and the user sees on a color scale whether the password strength is sufficient or not. If the password is strong enough, the utility saves it on the router and the PC.
  • At the end of the installation, the AirTies Utility icon is placed in the system tray. With the click of a button, the user can display current settings, connection status, or broadband usage.
The connection status is continuously monitored and any changes in the connection state are reported

Almost the entire setup can be done automatically making it very easy for users to establish broadband Internet connectivity and to get their network up and running within just a few minutes. If the user wants to configure the advanced settings of the device, he/she can simply click on the link at the bottom left corner of the setup screen and directly access the Advanced Settings page of the Web UI without having to enter confusing IP addresses (e.g. 192.168.2.204).
