AirTies wireless video solutions use standards based Wi-Fi networks to deliver reliable HD-quality video streams throughout the entire home. Providing quality of service in wireless video transmission presents an enormous challenge though with numerous interference and performance limitations inside the home. Latency and jitter are two especially difficult issues to resolve when transporting broadcast-quality real-time content.

To help address the latency and jitter issues, AirTies follows the IEEE 802.11e standard to prioritize packets. Real-time video packets are tagged enabling routers to give priority to the content of such packets. However, prioritization by itself is not sufficient to solve the real-time video quality problem. AirTies also employs their own patented channel selection methods to use the best channel for video transmission which helps avoid interference problems. The router starts by using the clearest available channel when it first comes up. From that point on, all other channels are periodically sampled for quality. The information gathered on the other channels helps decide which channel to switch to when the channel currently being used can no longer support real-time video transmission. All this process is completed without any interruptions that are visible to the user.
